Turn cottage cheese and yogurt
containers upside down in your fridge. They will not spoil as quickly
that way. |
 |
If you want to cook your hamburgers
well done, make a hole in the center of them and they will cook more quickly
and completely. |
 |
Fresh eggs sink. Stale eggs
float in water. |
 |
Baking powder is still good if 1/4 tsp
in 1/2 cup warm water fizzes. |
 |
Some things to put in your freezer:
coffee, nuts, candles, popcorn and important papers! (least likely place to
burn). |
 | Instant potatoes are a good stew
thickener |
 | Marshmallows can be used as candle
holders on cakes |
 | When rolling cookie dough, sprinkle
board with powdered sugar instead of flour |
 | When making rice, instead of cooking
in plain water, cook in water heated and steeped with tea first.
Flavored teas are good. |
 | Clove, garlic and pepper flavors get
stronger when they are frozen, while sage, onion and salt get milder. |
 | Biscuits will be crisp on the
outside and flaky in the center if you roll the dough and then fold it over
once before cutting out biscuits. |
 | The tannin in tea is a meat
tenderizer. Cook tough cuts of meat in strong tea instead of water
when cooking stews. |
 | Anything that grows under the
ground, start off in cold water. (potatoes, beets, carrots) anything
that grows above ground, start of in boiling water (peas, green beans etc) |
